Description
Thonburi is an expansive residential district located on the west bank of the Chaophraya River. The neighborhood is of historical importance, as it was briefly Siam’s Capital after the destruction of Ayutthaya by the Burmese. As a result of this, it is packed with remnants of its historical significance such as Temples and ancient landmarks.
In recent times with most of the development and commercial activity having shifted to the Central Business District (I.e. Sukhumvit), Thonburi is considered a quiet and peaceful residential Bangkok suburb. The area is particularly popular with Silom-Sathorn working professionals, due to the area’s affordability and good-value lifestyle.
The area is experiencing rapid urban transformation and gentrification, with the development of a slew luxury riverside residences and the recently welcoming the Icon Siam Luxury Mall!
